Details from the ’70s

Sigh…
I miss the days when women wore leather knee bracelets that matched their leather armband insets and men wore long belted shantung chemises with pants.

Happy Clothes

Remember my rail against loungewear?  No, you probably don’t. I’ll condense it for you here, but the whole gab can be seen HERE.
By the way, who goes out and buys “lounge wear”? Like, there’s this whole category of outfits now that are just for lounging. They’re a little too decorative to wear as pajamas, [...]

A Method In Their Modness

Sun Bath

Can’t decide what I’d take first–one of these beautiful sundresses from 1950 or the incredible bamboo chair.

Playing Tricks With Your Eyes

How about these trompe loeil creations? My favorite trick was done exactly right in 1952 by Hermés.

Tassel Thursday

You’ve spent most of the day trying to think of an occasion to wear tassels. Let Thursday be the occasion (Or, really, any day that ends in “Y.”)

Medieval Monday

Bal Masqué: the unsettling beauty of Woman ‘70–baroque, unearthly—envisioned by Alexandre especially for Harper’s Bazaar. The head, shielded in a silver perruque like cap of molten metal. The face, dewed with gems and brilliants precisely placed by hand and gauzed with netting. A medieval maiden’s twist of a braid, coiled around the neck.

If you’re lucky enough to be in Chicago next weekend, by all means, get yourself over to Leslie Hindman Auctioneers Vintage Couture and Accessories Auction. I went a few years ago and was very impressed by the event. I went without much cash (I’m not even sure I registered for a [...]

Prince of Prints

It was just a few days ago that I was parading some fabulous 70s French fashion magazine images. My focus was Lanvin. Here’s a Lanvin shirt dress that I’ve just added to lucitebox.com. What do you think?
It reminds me of those squared-off spiral ‘art metal’ necklaces and brooches you’d see in the 70s. Think Danish [...]

Excellence in Print

Today’s entry is part and parcel because I am prepping an amazing Lanvin shirt dress from the 70s. The print is a splattery wild one. Look for it in a few days.  It’s the ultimate day dress to see and be seen wearing.  I absolutely adore Lanvin.
