Pearl Harbor Day

It’s Pearl Harbor Day.
While I was driving around today I saw an Am Vets truck and then remembered the date: “December 7, 1941–a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.”
I remembered I had a vintage victory garden button that I think is great on this ’40s jacket from my closet. That detail on the shoulder is repeated on the other side of the jacket near the wasp waist. It’s impossibly perfect in real life. (Sorry my photos are kinda lame.) I wish I was going somewhere tonight so that I could wear them both.

Gardens A Patriotic Duty
“Our Government urges you to raise food because in doing so you will save metal that would have been used for cans. You will save the fuel that would have been used to carry the food to your local store. You will save the space on railroad trains that is so vitally needed for the transportation of ammunition and supplies for our armed forces. You will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are doing your part to help win the war.”
This snippet from a WWII pamphlet seems as timely as ever. Unfortunately, it’s snowing today in Chicago. But it won’t be this coming summer.
