Gorgeous Detailed Vintage 60s Petal Printed Silk Dress -
SOLD
Call us a little wacky, but we were a bit disappointed when this print on this pretty silk dress turned out not to be nuts. At first glance, we thought that these petal shapes in yellow and brown were walnuts or something from the nut family, but it turns out that they're probably rose petals.
This dress likely dates from the 60s, but may very well have been made with a late 50s pattern. It's a fantastic example of home-sewn goodness. The detailing is really well crafted and the dress itself is beautifully made.
At the neckline (and what an unusual neckline) there are three bands of fabric form a collar combined with some sheer mesh that gives the illusion of naughtiness. There are three flat bows at the shoulder for added effect. The real star here, though, has to be the fabric. It's just great. It's fun, it's flirty and cute. It makes a dress design that might have been way over-the-top and adds a levity to it.
This dress closes in the back with a long metal zipper. The fabric is slightly slubbed. We're pretty sure it's silk.
We're nuts about this dress. Hope you are, too!
