Samuel Winston Vintage 50s Peek-a-Boo Madeira Dress -
This is a charming vintage 50s dress in soft ivory trimmed in cafe au lait Madeira lace cutwork. Isn't it lovely?
The dress is a slim button down affair with cute cap sleeves and a pretty Peter Pan lace collar. We love how this peek-a-boo beauty hugs the body--a true wiggle shape that accentuates curves.
The dress is by Roxanne, under the Samuel Winston label. Samuel Winston entered into an agreement with Charles James in 1955 to produce a line of his clothes. We don't know the back story, but apparently it didn't go well because any connection James had with this company was short lived.
The dress is lined in nude sheer fabric and is expertly tailored. There are some flaws shown and noted. The price reflects that. We think it's still very wearable.
GOOD. There are two spots on the dress that are faint and look like they came from the heat of an iron. Very hard to see, but pictured at right. Also, the lining has tears in the armpits and at the back. Hem has been let out about one inch.
