This 1940s dress by Dorothy Hubbs has big square pockets that are planted at the hip and run all the way to the back of the dress. Tiered, flat shutter tucks on the bodice match the pockets. (By the way, isn't "shutter tuck" the perfect way to describe these pleats?) Pointy collar, tight shoulder pads, a graceful smooth skirt--it's as if cool, slinky rayon was made for a dress like this one. The dress closes at the neck and side with metal zippers.
