This delightful cherry blossom print dress from the early 1950s carries the R & K Originals label, a favorite fashionable New York dressmaker that offered fabulous party dresses during its heyday. (They're still cranking out schmate at R & K, but few look anything like this beauty.)
This elegant taffeta dress is a gorgeous shade of periwinkle blue with a soft white, gray, lavender and black botanical pattern that's got a subtle iridescent quality that adds a silvery nuance to the soft blue color in certain light.
The bodice is fitted and punctuated with a rich black velvet collar. The neckline is a a simple "V" that closes with one hook and eye. The silhouette is remarkable and features fitted three-quarter sleeves with turn-back cuffs. The slimming basque waist is finished with a self-fabric belt. Small gathers just below the waist seam culminate in a voluminous skirt that presents beautifully. It has a built-in light blue tulle underskirt that adds plenty of body and movement to this full skirt. (It's as if you're wearing a petticoat, but without the bulk.) In the back view, you see that same basque waist treatment. On a real body, it's really flattering. The dress closes with a metal side zipper.
This lovely cherry blossom print dress is a crowd-pleaser. It's the sort of party dress that will be a standout in a sea of black dresses. And you can bet that you'll look incredibly pretty while wearing it.
Condition:
Excellent. This has been recently dry cleaned. It's free of stains, holes or issues. The belt buckle is ever so slightly discolored which is hardly evident in the close-up shot of the waist seam and certainly not noticeable.
