Dated 1955 on the backs of the plates, this deeply mid-century modern dish set is exquisite. The only reason it's not staying in the lucitebox headquarters is because we already have a 50s set we love to use. You get four dinner plates and four coffee cups with this set, but we'd like to think of the plate as a very large dessert plate. See...you put your giant slice of pie on the plate, add some in the style, (er...a la mode) and you fill that coffee cup and everything in the world is right. This is especially true if the pie is cherry. Oh, and the cup even sits on the plate in it's own little recessed, indented cup holder thingamabob.

Made by The Stetson China company, the pattern is fantastic. It's got a brushy almost faux-bois gray background and big bamboo leaves in darkest brown and green. If you're considering a wedding gift or a little present for your friend who loves to coffee klatch with you, this set is, indeed, a great organic modern option.
