Dramatic Wool Floral Vintage 80s Kenzo Suit -
SOLD
Sometimes, what strikes you about a garment isn't always evident when it's on a hanger. That was the case when we first laid hands on this lovely vintage 80s ensemble from Kenzo. It was the wool--soft to the touch and extremely fluid. Then, what grabbed our attention was the textile itself--a dramatic oversize floral that bears resemblance to ikat. Paired with a chalky stripe print, the floral is all the more bold and exciting.
Sure, it would be nice to have a Kenzo from his Jungle Jap line, but this suits us well, too, because it borrows details from traditional Japanese kimonos. The skirt is a wrapped affair that features a very wide sash not unlike an obi. There is no "slit" in the waistband like a typical wrap skirt would have. Instead, you're meant to tie it as you would an obi. The top features asymmetrical buttons concealed behind gray seam binding. That top also recalls traditional Asian garments. Just wonderful!
This top is fully lined (except for the sleeves) in soft gray cotton or a cotton/rayon blend. It closes with small buttons with loop button holes. The skirt is unlined and has deep, large box pleats defined with the stripe print.
Gracious, dramatic and certainly unusual--we think this is a Kenzo that's not to be missed.
