High Style Vintage 60s John Moore Designer Suit -  SOLD
Dove Gray Dress & Jacket With Impeccable Tailoring
John Moore may not be as well-known to students of vintage fashion, but he really ought to be. This striking suit is just one example of the mastery of craft that Mr. Moore so elegantly achieved during his career.

And what a career it was. Moore got his start at Elizabeth Arden and quickly went on to open his own house in 1963. He designed the dress that Lady Bird Johnson wore to the inaugural ball in '65.That clean classical design was pure Moore. It's an elegant sable trimmed gown in yellow (a nod to his Texan roots.) Lady Bird's frock is now housed at the Smithsonian. Moore also designed the dress Marilyn Monroe wore at her marriage to Arthur Miller.

This dove gray wool dress and jacket is as elegant as anything we've seen by Norman Norell, who was John Moore's boyfriend and protégé. It's a sleek sleeveless dress with a silk empire waist bodice. The skirt is lean and form fitting. The shapely jacket is a knock-out. It's a sculptural piece that's splendidly designed with a nipped waist and a shawl collar. This classic, chic jacket comes together with a single huge gray and yellow button. The dress zips in the back with a long nylon zipper. It's fully lined in cream colored silk. The construction is impeccable.

This suit is the best of the era, and our price reflects both its rarity and its aesthetic merit. We are pleased to offer this 1960's John Moore dress and jacket ensemble. It's the ultimate vintage find for the woman who knows she deserves the best, and doesn't want to bother with the mediocre.

Condition:
Very good. The silk bodice should be re-sewn in two places. Bodice has been let-out. (See photos.) There is also a small "dent" a the edge of the sleeve that's about 1/8" long and 1/16" high. It's hard to describe, but it's not a moth hole or an abrasion, just an indentation See last photo. This is a very tiny, hard to find flaw. Perhaps it's a manufacturing flaw in the fabric itself. This suit is otherwise clean and ready to wear.
